Solibri Model Checker Link for ArchiCAD 14 Available

Solibri has published Solibri Model Checker Link for ArchiCAD 14. The product is available to all Solibri Model Checker users. The version release supports both Mac and Windows environments. In addition to 64 bit versions also 32 bit operating systems are supported.

GSA Signs International Agreement Supporting Building Information Modeling

WASHINGTON – The U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS) has signed an agreement with three international real estate organizations to support open standards for Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and systems, the agency announced today. GSA will work with Finland’s Senate Properties, the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority, and Norway’s Directorate of Public Construction and Property to promote interoperability and the seamless and accurate exchange of digital data from different developers.

“This is a significant collaboration,” said PBS Commissioner David Winstead. “It gives public owners and users a leadership role in the development of this important tool. And it promotes global cooperation and creativity.”

BIM software and systems generate finely detailed 3-D and 4-D computer building models, and can be used to design building heating and cooling systems and predict energy consumption. BIM can also help customers fine tune space design and the phasing of tenant moves.

GSA and its three partners have committed to making their construction projects accessible for piloting and will work together to issue corresponding BIM requirements, open standards mandates, and adoption schedules with the goal of using these on a regular basis within two to four years.

Senate Properties BIM requirements

Since 2001, Senate Properties has carried out a number of pilot projects to develop and study the use of product models. Based on feedback from these, Senate Properties has assessed product model technology to be sufficiently ready for putting to use in ordinary project work, and the company has decided to require models meeting the IFC standard in its projects as of 1 October 2007.

Experiences in development and use of a digital Building Information Model, the HITOS Project

Solibri Model Checker was one of the softwares used in the BIM pilot project of Statsbygg (The Norwegian Agency of Public Construction and Property).

Came into use in June 2006 with a training course held in week 25. Can be used as a viewer and to heck models against each other. Seems to be a very effective tool for revealing conflicts in a given model and between disciplines. As such, it seems able to effectively solve the geometric element of our work – with the architects and other disciplines and clearly represents an advance with regard to traditional design. We see significant potential in reduction of the risk of disagreement between the various disciplines on the geometric planet."

"This is a highly functional program, but does require a little training to make use of its potential. To run the program rationally requires a relatively updated PC, including minimum 1 Gbyte RAM. Import of models from all disciplines is easy, as is creating a common model as basis for various model checks in "Rule Sets". The program is intuitive and above all: It works. We had problems with the 3D viewer, but this was due to the screen driver in the PC, which was not updated. Solibri seems to generally be the ideal first choice in a design process."

U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has published a BIM Guide for Spatial Program Validation.
